Dear Patient and Family;

As a healthcare provider, we take patients’ rights and responsibilities very seriously in all services we provide.  Our Patients’ Rights and Responsibilities Committee constantly monitors and improves our principles and practices in this matter. Through various brochures and documents, our Committee provides our patients with knowledge and information they require regarding patients’ rights and responsibilities. Accordingly, as our patients, you too are expected to be aware of your responsibilities, which would greatly help us carry out treatment and procedures in a respectful and safe environment.

Our principles of patients’ rights and responsibilities are essentially based on national and international notion of patients’ rights. Also, we refer to the "Charter of Child Patients" with regard to children’s rights in hospitals.

Please do not hesitate to share your opinions or suggestions with us by filling out a patient satisfaction survey form or a patient complaint form.

Physicians and healthcare professionals make diagnosis or administer treatment in accordance with medical rules. Our patients have the right to access to health care services in accordance with their needs.

Patient Responsibilities:

Patients are responsible for complying with our institution’s rules and practices during diagnosis and treatment.

Our patients have the right to request detailed information about treatment as well as the terms and conditions under which they will be provided healthcare services. Any information requested by the patients will be provided considering patients’ religious beliefs, ethnic origin, and language.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients: Parents are responsible for requesting information during diagnosis and treatment of their child.

Adult patients should request information about the different stages of their treatment plan.

For patients with disabilities: Immediate family, close relatives and friends of the patient are responsible for requesting information about treatment.

Our patients have the right to change doctors or the provider who renders healthcare services at any stage of the treatment. In the event that our patients refuse treatment, they shall have the right to switch to another healthcare institution by signing the Refusal of Medical Treatment form.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients: Parents are responsible for declaring their request for changing the provider who renders healthcare services before the treatment is completed.

Adult patients should declare their request for changing doctors or the provider who renders healthcare services.

For patients with disabilities: Parents are responsible for declaring their request for changing doctors or the provider who renders healthcare services.

Priorities for patient care are set based on medical criteria and impartial considerations.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients: Parents can explain their child’s medical condition to healthcare professionals and request priority access to health care.

Adult patients can request priority access to health care if they think they need urgent medical care. 

For patients with disabilities: Parents can request priority access to health care if they think the patient should receive urgent medical care.

We offer diagnosis and treatment using modern medical methods based on a set of technical standards.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients: Parents should answer the doctor’s questions in a full and clear manner.

Adult patients should notify their doctor of any negative or positive changes during treatment.

For patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient should indicate the patient’s medical condition in a clear and accurate manner.

Under no circumstances, except in life-threatening situations, doctors must not perform any medical intervention that can damage patients’ health or result in fatality. 

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Our patients have the right to refuse unnecessary medical interventions and examinations.     

We provide our patients with detailed information on the healthcare facility where the treatment will be given, method of treatment, possible complications and the projected length of treatment.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients: Parents have the right to submit a written or oral request for receiving information on the course of disease.

Adult patients can request information about alternative treatment methods. 

Patients with disabilities can ask their family members for help in case they have difficulties understanding the information provided by the healthcare professionals. 

Our patients have the right to request a copy of documents/records containing their medical condition. This information will be provided only to patient’s immediate family or directly involved persons. 

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient should keep the abovementioned documents/records accordingly and use them only in/for authorized institutions.  

Our patients have the right to request for correction of missing, unclear, incorrect medical and personal information in their personal health records. The correction of such information is subject to investigation by our hospital’s Administrative Affairs Unit.   

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient have the right to request to view a copy of the records or ask for a written explanation of any information contained in them.

Treatment must be explained to the patient using simple words and taking into consideration patient’s emotional state, and their understanding must be confirmed. We also have interpretation services available when needed.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: In the event that parents or close relatives of the patient should consider the information provided to them insufficient or inadequate, they shall have the right to submit a complaint to the authorized persons to report the insufficient nature of the information provided to them.

Information on patients’ medical condition is available for their family members or close relatives upon request by the patients.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient should clearly indicate the information they wish to obtain about treatment.  

AU Dental Hospital maintains a reasonable level of confidentiality with regard to patient treatment. Only persons authorized by the patient are allowed to have access to medical records. 

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: You should inform us in advance about any information that should be kept confidential. 

We obtain informed consent from our patients, giving them legal and ethical right to be informed about every treatment/procedure to be performed on their bodies.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: You should provide every possible support to our doctors and healthcare staff during treatment.

During treatment, our patients are informed in details about all possible risks, side effects and alternative treatment methods available. Treatment never goes ahead without obtaining our patients’ informed, voluntary consent.

Our patients have the right to refuse treatment.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients: In order for the patient can undergo a planned treatment, parents must carefully read the informed consent form and give consent to treatment.

Adult patients must carefully read the informed consent form and give valid consent to treatment within a specific period of time.  

For patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient must carefully read the informed consent form and give consent to treatment.

 

Our patients have the right to refuse treatment, except in cases when the treatment is legally mandated. Patients shall agree to accept the medical consequences of their own decisions if they choose to refuse treatment or not to comply with the treatment plan.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or other persons authorized to make healthcare decisions for the patient can refuse treatment in accordance with the relevant laws.

We offer our patients treatments that are scientifically proven to be safe and effective.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient should ask about treatment options before starting the planned treatment.

Obtaining informed consent to medical treatment from patients and ensuring their safety are governed specific methods.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: You should notify all relevant authorities if you notice anything legally or morally questionable.

Our patients are informed in details by a doctor or healthcare staff, and asked for their informed consent before undergoing any medical treatment, care or procedure.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient should submit a written request to receive detailed information about treatment.

We ensure that experiments and research that are planned to be implemented are in full compliance with Procedures for Conducting Scientific Research & Experiment.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: You should request for detailed information about experiments and research to be conducted and sign the informed consent form.  

Our hospital has security staff to protect patients. We also provide our patients with the necessary security measures such as video surveillance monitoring.

To keep vulnerable patients (unable to protect themselves against harm or exploitation) safe, we use a wide range of security measures.

All employees in our Hospital wear their ID badges at all times while on facility.

A family member or another person of your choice is allowed to be present during examination or treatment.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: We recommend you to have a family member or a close relative present to provide you with care and support during treatment.  

In the event that the patient is unable to access to our Hospital due to medical reasons, protective health services can be provide outside our institutional settings.

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: Parents or close relatives of the patient should follow the instructions when we refer them to another healthcare facility.   

Our Hospital collects patient satisfaction feedback in order to bring about improvements to healthcare procedures and services. You have the right to file a complaint or take legal action if you think our hospital is in violation of patients’ rights in terms of patient treatment, care and other related procedures.   

Patient Responsibilities:

For paediatric patients, adult patients and patients with disabilities: If you are unhappy with your care or the service we provide, please give us your feedback so we can improve.  

In case of violation of patients’ rights, the plaintiff(s) can seek the compensation of pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages by the healthcare institution or organization that employs the defendant in question. However, in the event that the healthcare institution or organization the plaintiff(s) want to file a complaint or a lawsuit against is a public institution or organization;

According to the Article 12 of the Code of Administrative Procedure No. 2577; in the event that violation of patient’s right(s) should occur due to an administrative procedure, the relevant persons shall have the right to pursue any and all available full legal remedies and/or bring an action for annulment before the court, as well as the right to file an action for annulment first and then pursue legal remedies within a specified period of time once the court rules on actions for annulment brought by the plaintiff(s).

According to the Article 13 of the abovementioned Code, it is required to file a complaint with the hospital management by demanding separate amounts of compensation for pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages within at least one year from the date when harmful actions against the patient have been revealed, and to bring a case against the Hospital’s acts and/or actions before administrative courts in case of explicit or implicit refusal of the demand for compensation.
